Kosovo, Albania sign education agreement

TIRANA, March 8 – Albania and Kosovo signed Monday an agreement promising their joint cooperation in the development of the education systems in their respective countries.
The deal was signed by the Albanian Education Minister Myqerem Tafaj and his visiting Kosovo counterpart Enver Hoxhaj.
During his stay in Tirana Hoxhaj also met with all other top officials in the country – President Bamir Topi, Prime Minister Sali Berisha and Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli.
During their talks they discussed how to further coordinate the reciprocal assistance to their education networks.
Albania also pledged to support opening of a new university in Prizren, Kosovo that would also be assisted with staff and curricula from Tirana.
During the talks Hoxhaj and his Albanian hosts also discussed further efforts to increase the number of countries in the world that recognize the new country, Kosovo, which is already recognized by 65 countries.
They also said they would work toward creating joint texts, starting from elementary school.
The two countries urged each other to send as many academicians and other personnel to assist their respective institutions. They also said they will increase efforts for joint research.
The two education ministries will hold regular meetings in both capitals.
