Meta to visit Washington

TIRANA, March 16 – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ilir Meta will visit Washington March 18th to demonstrate his commitment to a strong US-Albania bilateral relationship based on commerce, security, and human rights.
Breaking a five year period with no high-level contact, Meta traveled to Belgrade where he met with Serbian President Boris Tadic, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic, Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic.
Described as “historic” by all parties involved, this visit was part of Meta’s goal to unite Balkan nations around the issues that bring them together, such as EU integration.
Meta will travel to Washington to speak about the importance of Albania as a regional leader in Balkans, and the necessity of a strong US-Albania bilateral relationship. He will meet with officials in the White House, State Department, Department of Commerce, and Department of Defense, as well as Members of Congress and leading foreign policy thinkers.
He will also give a speech at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies that is open to the public and the press.
Since taking office, Meta has pursued an ambitious agenda to establish Albania as a regional leader and force for stability and peace in the Balkans.
Meta is an active champion of a strong US-Albania bilateral relationship that includes increased cooperation in commerce, security, democracy promotion and diplomacy.
