TIRANA, Nov. 20 – Non-governmental organizations have resumed their efforts to clean the country from litter, continuing efforts by the government earlier this year, when the army pitched in to clean tourist areas and highways.
A number of NGOs set Nov. 21 as the date for the cleaning of urban waste and also for public awareness on the subject.
The campaign, Green Tour 3: Road toward a clean Albania, will be accompanied by conference on the results and also raise the voice to keep a clean environment in Albania.
A public awareness campaign has started and is being held in the last two weeks in many districts all around the country. The NGOs have also attracted the interest of western embassies and international institutions to the campaign.
Litter spread all around the country is seen as as one of the main obstacles or shortcomings in efforts to set tourism as one of its main revenue resources, trying to attract not only locals and ethnic brethren as tourists but also people from other countries to see its still undiscovered spots.
