TIRANA, Feb. 2 – Albania’s general tax administration has made available a hotline to assist businesses with tax related enquiries. Starting Feb. 1, businesses can phone 0800 00 02 to get information of electronic filing, tax legislation and services offered by the tax administration.

Trained call center operators will be available to answer enquiries from Monday to Thursday from 09:00 to 20:00 and Friday and 16:00.

“Depending on the complexity of your enquiries, assistance can be directly offered by our specialists or transferred to respective tax administration experts,” the general tax directorate said in a statement.

The introduction of the call center service came after a survey in which 60 percent of businesses said they preferred receiving assistance through call center services.

Relations with tax authorities are considered problematic by more than a third of businesses in Albania, according to a survey by the American Chamber of Commerce.

Call centers are a booming business in Albania, employing about 25,000 people, mainly young men and women. The industry, whose overwhelming majority of services are provided for Italian companies, has recently come under fire after legal changes approved by the Italian Parliament last December made the supply of services from non-EU countries such as Albania much tighter.
