TIRANA, Oct. 20 – The European Union will decide whether to scrap visa requirements for Albanian citizens on November 8th, Interior Minister Lulzim Basha said.
That means that the visas will be lifted by the end of the year.
On October 7th, the European Parliament green-lighted lifting visa requirements for both countries. The final decision is up to the Council of Ministers.
The EU Council of the permanent Representatives gave the green light to the Council of Interior Ministers on lifting the visas for Albania and Bosnia at their meeting Nov. 8.
that was made known to Basha from European Commissioner on Internal Issues Stefano Manservisi during a meeting in Brdo, Sllovenia, on illegal migration, organized crime, corruption and terrorism.
Basha said that he was very positive the decision would be lifting the visa restriction.
That means that Albanians will be able to move around Europe’s Schengen area without the need for a visa but only three out of six months and without being entitled to a job or permanent residence.
Albanian cabinet ministers have started a nationwide campaign explaining to the citizens what the visa liberalization meant for them.
On Saturday European lawmaker (Slovenian) Tanja Fajon meets Albanian Students and Civil Society to talk on the issue in Tirana.
As the Visa liberalization Process is approaching the end, European Movement in Albania (EMA), has invited her at the event “MEP Tanja Fajon meets Albanian Students and Civil Society”.
That activity will be held in the framework of the OSFA funded project “Visa Liberalization Process with Albania: How to make it a success story”, focusing in an information campaign on the rights and obligations deriving from Visa Liberalization.
Fajon will focus on the crucial role that the Visa Liberalization Process has for the region of the Western Balkans.
During the meeting, a discussion with students, civil society organizations and the panelists will address perceptions and opportunities deriving from Visa Liberalization
