TIRANA, Aug 18 – Well-known novelist, Dritero Agolli, also one of the shadow personalities in the opposition Socialist Party, called on its leader, Edi Rama, not to abandon traditional leftist supporters while looking for undecided voters. Agolli also said that Rama was more appropriate to run a government, and an executive than a political party. He advised Rama to do a better job explaining the program of the government if his party comes to power, that he should tell people, in detail, how the party would fight poverty, increase salaries and pensions and how he would secure new jobs.
Agolli also called on Fatos Nano, former Socialist leader and prime minister, to resume his political role.Ironically Agolli said that leftist politicians, at the moment, do not accept each other and only international mediators (He reminded listeners of how Franz Vranitsky, the Austrian chancellor, came to Albania in the anarchic year of 1997 to mediate among the political parties and create the interim government. He also mentioned U.S. President George W. Bush as a future mediator.) “No Balkan personality could hold that mission,” he warned. (Tirana Times Staff)
