Albania, Bulgaria and Serbia – main cannabis producers in Europe

TIRANA, March 1 – Albania together with Bulgaria and Serbia are the main producers of Cannabis in Eastern Europe, according to the 2009 report by the International Narcotics Control Board with the UN.
In Albania over 145,000 plants were destroyed within 360 operations and 3941 kg of Cannabis were confiscated in 2008.
The Bulgarian Government reported that total 14,806 kg of Cannabis were destroyed and 1,026 kg were confiscated in 2008.
The Board appealed to governments in Eastern and Central Europe to increase their efforts in combating Cannabis trafficking.
Albanian police considers fighting drug traffic as a main priority along the country’s efforts of integration into the European Union.
