TIRANA, May 30 – Albania denounced the crimes in Syria, but not formally in a statement issued for Tirana, but on behalf of the Council of Europe’s executive.
Edmond Haxhinasto, Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania, expressed his indignation regarding the massacres committed in Syria, especially in the city of Haoula, where over 90 people were killed, many of whom were children.
Haxhinasto condemned “these appalling events, which are a clear testimony of the disregard by the Syrian regime of the six point plan devised by the Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States, Mr Kofi Annan,” according to a statement.
The Chairman of the Committee of Ministers urges the Syrian authorities to put an immediate end to military actions against the civil population, withdraw the army and allow the UN observers to discharge their mission without any hindrance. He expresses his solidarity with the Syrian people and recalls that it is the duty of a government to protect its population.
On Wednesday international envoy Kofi Annan left Syria without securing any major steps from the Syrian government to implement his faltering peace plan for the country, while as International outrage has mounted since a massacre of more than 100 residents took place in the central town of Houla last Friday.
