TIRANA, Jan 21 – The charity Friends of Albania has said funds were used in December by the Diakonia Agapes to purchase toys for 900 poor children in several towns who would otherwise have received no Christmas or New Year gifts.
Funds sent to Korce were used to provide food for a Christmas dinner for up to 100 destitute elderly persons at the Orthodox holistic day-centre. Money was also given to an impoverished elderly widow and her family with severe problems in Perlat, Rreshen. Organizer Primrose Peacock, of Truro, thanks everyone for donations, including used stamps. The stamp appeal continues and new or repeat contributions are welcomed.
A leaflet is available on request. The proceeds will be used to support destitute families that have not received remittances. Late donations and stamps recently received will be used to send up to 600 pounds to Albania next month to provide for the Mother Teresa nuns to purchase bread flour for the urban poor near Tirana.
