Albania, Kosovo Ready To Cope With Marty’s Report

Tirana Times

TIRANA, Jan 18 – Albania and Kosovo continue their efforts of coordinating the work ahead of the Council of Europe’s session on Dick Marty’s report on alleged organ trafficking.
Kosovo acting President Jakup Krasniqi continue last week the meetings with Albania top officials in his trip to Tirana. After the prime minister and parliament speaker he also meet with President Bamir Topi and opposition Socialist party leader Edi Rama.
The president said that the two countries are trying to create a joint institutional reaction at the Council of Europe when it discusses Dick Marty’s report at the end of the month.
Topi also said that Kosovo has shown a high level of maturity in the readiness to talk on technicalities with Serbia, also urging the Council of Europe to promote dialogue and cooperation in that issue.
Topi also urged the Council of Europe to present facts and not deal with interpretations, adding that Tirana was ready to cooperate for the investigation.
Krasniqi repeated that Marty’s report was initiated from certain circles in Belgrade not interested in establishing good terms with Kosovo.
Krasniqi added that Prishtina was at the last steps of creating the negotiating team with Serbia, despite its recent efforts to create the new government after the parliamentary elections.
Tirana and Prishtina have offered full cooperation to international authorities to investigate allegations of crimes including organ trafficking blamed on some wartime liberation fighters.
A report last month by Council of Europe rapporteur Dick Marty, a Swiss senator and ex-prosecutor, accused members of the former Kosovo Liberation Army of abductions in Kosovo and organ harvesting there and in Albania in 1999-2000.
it names Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, who won a second mandate to govern days before the report was released, as head of a mafia-style cartel. Thaci who said he would sue. Thousands of Albanians in Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia and also Montenegro have been waiting in lines during the recent days to sign a petition to urge parliamentarians at the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly not to vote in favor of Marty’s report.
