TIRANA, Nov 16 – Albanian authorities repatriated Shen Lei, a Chinese national wanted in connection with a 100-million-yuan (15 million U.S. dollars) fraud, China’s Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said Monday according to the Xinhua news agency.
Shen was escorted back to China on Oct. 15, about four months after he was arrested in Tirana international Airport in Albania on June 19, according to the ministry.
Police in east China’s Hangzhou city named Shen as the main suspect in a major financial fraud case that they started to investigate in May.
The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) issued a red notice regarding Shen at the request of China, after Shen left the country.
“Shen’s case is yet another success for the Chinese police in extraditing criminal suspects from Europe,” the MPS said in a statement on its website.
