Albania takes over leadership of Adriatic-Ionian cooperation

TIRANA, May 27 – On Monday, Albania took over the chairmanship of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative. It was handed over by Slovenian Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec to Albanian Deputy Foreign Minister Edith Harxhi in Brussels, Belgium.
The Slovenian minister said it considered the Adriatic-Ionian macro region as very important for the fabric of Europe. He made the comments a meeting of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative where he handed over the chairmanship of the initiative to Albania.
Two days later authorities from the Albanian defense ministry and the U.S. Embassy held a meeting on the security issues in the Adriatic-Ionian seas with the participation of many top officials and participants not only from the country but also the regional countries and the United States.
