MILAN, Italy, Oct 14 – Italian police have busted a gang in Milan composed mainly by Albanians, which imported heroin from Albania to the market in northern Italy.
The operation “Helios 2009” led to the arrest or detention of eight people. Police also seized in four different places 29 kilos of heroin and 51,000 euro. They also identified a laboratory for cutting and packaging of drugs.
Two Albanian nationals of 32 and 27 years were identified as major drug traffickers. They had the task of receiving heroin directly from Albania, stored it in an apartment in Milan, sliced it into pats which were then sold to Albania, Italy and North Africa for retail sale.
Among the methods used to transport the drugs to Milan there was the use of vehicles loaded on ships coming from Greece in the port of Bari and then further to Milan.
