Albanian military in Georgia are safe, defense ministry says

TIRANA, Aug 13 – Three members of the Albanian military, who work with international peacekeeping forces in Georgia, are safe, according to the Defense Ministry.
The three officers, majors by rank, are part of the Untied Nations peacekeepers and are unarmed. They are part of a 136-member unit. One of them is in Abkhazia’s capital and the other two are on both sides of the recent fighting between the Georgian and Russian armies, according to Deputy Defense Minister Petrit Karabina.
Authorities said they had spoken by phone with them, according to Karabina. Albania has taken part in the international mission in Georgia since 2003. (Tirana Times Staff)
