TIRANA, Nov 9 – Albania also celebrated the fall of the Berlin wall 20 years ago as a great achievement for the democratic world.
President Bamir Topi and Prime Minister Sali Berisha sent messages of congratulations to the German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the commemorative day.
Albania’s communist regime fell a year later, the last in former communist eastern Europe.
November 9, 1989 served as a leading event to the former communist eastern European countries, Albania included, oppressed by the communist dictatorships. One after the other they toppled the harsh totalitarian regimes in their countries, in a quick overthrow of the socialist system all over Europe.
“Today, the great and friendly German nation, along with the free citizens of all the world, celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the most major event after World War Two for your nation, but even for the freedom of mankind,” wrote Berisha.
