PODGORICA, Montenegro, Oct 7 – Montenegrin police say they have arrested 21 people who were trying illegally to cross the Adriatic Sea to Italy.
The group was arrested Tuesday after police stopped their sailing boat in the Montenegrin waters of the Adriatic.
They say 16 men come from Albania, 3 from Kosovo and 2 from Serbia. Police say the Serbs are suspected of organizing the trafficking.
The Balkans is often used as a smuggling route toward Western Europe. Trafficking in people and other crimes flourished here during the wars of the 1990s.
