TIRANA, March 22 – Last weekend police arrested five persons accusing them of organizing an illegal trafficking of persons across the border.
Police arrested Zenel Coka, 37, Gazment Mucaj, 31, Njazi Lamaj, 34, Genci Muceku, 38, and Besnik Vlashi, 37, while they were helping 14 persons from the village of Vernik, Devoll to illegally cross the border. They were asking for a 300-500 euro payment from each of them.
Police said the arrested were followed in an investigation lasting for two months.
Despite a significant reduction in human trafficking, there are still people trying to illegally cross the border.
Albania is expecting the visa free regime from the European Union Schengen countries, likely this summer.
