TIRANA, Oct 5 – Interior Minister Lulzim Basha said Monday at the parliament that the government was taking the last measures before the country would get the visa-free regime with the European Union next year.
Albania, Bosnia and Kosovo were not included by Brussels with FYROM, Montenegro and Serbia to receive the visa-free regime this year. They were told more was to be done to complete the requests of the individual road maps before they were likely to get the same regime next year.
Biometric passports and border management are the two main topics these countries need to take care of.
Basha said that the country was moving forward on the process of visa liberalization and called on the opposition not to hinder or speak ill of that.
The opposition claims that the country was not included together with the other regional countries in the regime due to the problems caused from the previous and existing government of the Democratic Party’s Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
“Albania has made extraordinary progress in its steps toward realizing the liberalization of the visas. We are close to completing our obligations to the European Union,” said the minister speaking at the parliament on border management systems.
