TIRANA, Oct 5 – Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha sent a letter of congratulations to the German Chancellor Angela Merkel on occasion of the German Unity Day (Tag der Deutschen Einheit) October 3, i.e. the Day of Reunification of Germany.
Berisha conveyed his, “Ƨreetings and my warmest and friendly congratulations.”
October 3, 1990 marks a culminating point not only in the history of the German nation but also of European civilization and all mankind. Like the day of separation from the barbarity and insanity of communism which for more than half a century divided and isolated, jailed and executed, impoverished, brutally oppressed, stripped off the fundamental freedoms and transfigured not only millions of people, but even whole nations, he said.
“The reunification of Germany on October 3, 1990 marks the triumph of freedom, democracy and fundamental human rights all over Europe; it marks a decisive step for the reunification of the European peoples and nations, which together are already consolidating the most wonderful project of one Europe, united in peace and freedom.”
Berisha also sent congratulations on the 60th anniversary of the approval of the fundamental law of the post-war modern Germany, “Ʒhich has played an extraordinary role as a key reference point for guaranteeing democracy, the rule of law, freedom and human rights, like even the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the most representative symbol of the communist iron curtain paranoia.”
Berisha also expressed Tirana’s will, “ƴo strengthen and consolidate further the brilliant political relations that exist between the two countries and our two friendly peoples as well as to enhance and deepen cooperation between our two countries in all the fields, in the bilateral framework and multilateral one, especially in the framework of the NATO and EU integration.”
Germany is one of post-communist Albania’s top supporting western countries offering hundreds of millions of Euros in many projects countrywide. Berlin has also been a strong supporter of Albania’s integration efforts into NATO and the European Union.
