NEW YORK, Sep 22 – At the start of his visit to the United States to attend the 64th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Sali Berisha had a meeting with the UNDP Administrator Helen Clark.
Clark congratulated him for the major reforms and initiatives the government has undertaken in different fields and pointed to the “Albania in the digital age” about which she expressed the highest positive assessments.
Berisha thanked her for the assistance that the UNDP has provided to Albania for the implementation of the major projects of development and cooperation. He highlighted the ONE UN project about which Albania was selected a pilot country as well as the project of Internet connection in every school of the country, like a priority of the government.
Berisha assured Clark that his cabinet would take every step to guarantee the further progress of projects and he also emphasized that the UNDP assistance would be very much appreciated.
They also discussed another project, that on eco-tourism. Berisha mentioned the country’s great potentials in the coastal and mountainous tourism and that they were trying to open up new horizons for their greater and qualitative exploitation.
Clark also congratulated Berisha for his re-election.
Berisha also asked for the UNDP support in developing the private education system, assuring her of his cabinet’s commitment to use the best international models.
Berisha said that his cabinet would commit all its potential and resources in support of the UNDP projects which he considered very important.
