TIRANA, June 23 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha, also leader of the governing Democratic Party, made an offer to the opposition Monday on further working on electoral reforms, which they agreed to do earlier this year.
After the constitutional amendments in April, there has been no work on the details or the process of how the new regional proportional electoral system will be applied.
The opposition has appealed, saying they are too late and the work should normally be completed by the end of this parliamentary session, which is at the end of July.
Berisha said, at a regular weekly meeting with his party lawmakers, that hey welcomed cooperation with the opposition on all reforms, be that electoral, justice and others.
“We welcome any determination from the opposition to cooperate on the electoral code and the reform of institutions for which we have agreed,” he said. (Tirana Times Staff)
