TIRANA, March 2 – The British Embassy and the British Council in Albania launched “Inclusion Week”, in collaboration with the Albanian Disability Rights Foundation and Vodafone Albania Foundation.
Participants included the Minister of Labor, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Spiro Sera and the Director of Albanian Children Foundation Liri Berisha.
The Ambassador noted that the Anti-Discrimination Law passed by the Albanian Parliament last month was a very positive step forward. In Britain, she explained that anti discrimination and equal opportunities are top of the agenda.
She said “The reason is simple. We don’t see it as policy, or a programme; we don’t see it as sound bites or support for the weak. We see it as something that goes to the heart of modern Britain, something that goes to the very essence of who we are as a European nationŮDiversity defines Britain: It’s what gives us our strength and dynamism.”
As part of the Inclusion Week programme, David Morris, the External Inclusion Manager for the London 2010 Olympic and Paralympics games, is in Tirana to talk about the UK’s commitment to inclusion. David and his colleagues are working to make London 2012 the most accessible Olympic Games ever.
The Ambassador said: “It’s our ambition to make 2012 not only a showcase of sporting excellence but also a celebration of different cultures.
