TIRANA, Oct 13 – Chairman of the Canadian Senate Noel Kinsella and an accompanying delegation made a two-day visit to Albania expressing their support to Albania’s efforts to integrate into the international institutions.
Kinsella met with his host Jozefina Topalli, Albanian President Bamir Topi, Prime Minister Sali Berisha and many other senior officials.
Berisha expressed gratitude for the support given by Canada to Albania in all the development and integration processes, in particular Albania’s membership into NATO. Berisha said that the Albanian government is very determined to strengthen and push ahead the excellent relations between Albania and Canada in all cooperation fields.
Kinsella conveyed a special message from Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper congratulating Berisha for his re-election and also continuing support to the tiny Balkan country.
Kinsella expressed his pleasure over the fruitful economic cooperation, and the investments of several major Canadian companies in Albania.
He also praised the economic policies undertaken by the Albanian government.
Berisha on his side said that his government will support Canadian investors and they would be a history of success.
Berisha said the primary project for Albanians is EU membership and the Albanian government is working to implement all the standards and reforms in this respect.
He informed Kinsella of all the Albanian government efforts towards deep reforms in the field of economy, as well as in the fight against organized crime and corruption.
Berisha also said that his cabinet was working with determination in the fight against economic crime and money laundering, claiming a clear progress in this field.
Speaking on a favorable business climate was another topic that Kinsella heard in his meetings. Kinsella was asked to urge all Canadian businesses to invest in Albania in all fields, such as energy, tourism, mineral resources, education and scientific research, etc.
Kinsella also said that the cooperation between Canada and Albania in security issues would continue.
