Construction company owner targeted in second assassination attempt
TIRANA, Feb. 27 – A remote-controlled explosion has injured three people in Tirana in what appears to have been a second assassination attempt against a construction company owner, police and local media said.
The explosion in downtown Tirana wounded the businessman in question, Armando Ceka, his lawyer and his bodyguard, as they were leaving their company’s offices. Two of the wounded were in serious condition, police said.
The explosion took place Wednesday morning at Budi Street as the street was filled with people, causing panic.
Police said the attackers used 500 grams of TNT and had waited until the three man approached the vehicle. The blast wave destroyed the car and damaged the first floor of the nearby building.
Eyewitnesses told local media the people affected by the explosion had numerous injuries, including one who appeared to have lost his legs.
The three were still in hospital as of press time, with at least two of them in serious condition.
Local media reported that Ceka had lost one leg, while his lawyer, Julian Cela, had lost both of them.
While there are there is no official account on the motives of the attack, several local media report that Ceka had told police he has numerous for violating sale contracts on appartments.

The use of explosives in assassinations has grown in a worrying trend for authorities recently. Their targets have mainly been business owners involved in conflicts.
Police has already discovered and made arrests of one group accused of several such explosions — which authorities believe to have been guns for hire.
