TIRANA, Jan 6 – Astrit Patozi, head of the governing Democratic Party parliamentary grouping, said that the creation of the new Central Election Commission was a top priority in the work of the parliament the next weeks.
The CEC is to be recomposed in line with the new electoral code.
The number of its member will be reduce d from nine to seven, a move that has been harshly criticized by small political parties saying that was made in an effort to wipe them out of the new parliament.
Holding free and fair elections is a main priority to the tiny Balkan country that is looking forward to becoming a full NATO member in spring and also progress in its integration efforts into the European Union.
Post-communist Albania has always had problems with elections that have always been considered its main shortcoming.
