Dams are safe, says expert

TIRANA, Jan. 11 – President Bamir Topi met Sunday with Farudin Hoxha, head of the Commi8ttee of Big Dams.
Following their meeting both Topi and Hoxha reassured the population there was no danger on the break of any dams of the Drini River hydro power stations.
Following the flooding recently there has been rumors that dams could break up and the whole city of Shkodra would be flooded.
Hoxha, one of the architects of the power plants in the river, briefed Topi on the situation.
Topi said the situation was getting improved. The president also urged the population, the local authorities and everyone to establish good cooperation with each other. He also hailed the solidarity from the world, the local businesses and the population to the flood-hit population.
“I would like to transmit to the whole people to be sure that there will be absolutely nothing happening, that the Drini cascade is safe,” said Hoxha, expressing his surprise to the rumors which he considered “absolutely untrue.”
There exists not the smallest danger for the dams, gates and the tunnels of the hydro power stations,” Prime Minister Sali Berisha also assured the population of Shkodra during his visit Monday.
