TIRANA, Jan. 16 – Albanian Defence Minister Fatmir Mediu held a visit to Bratislava, Slovakia where he discussed the country’s membership into NATO and also the Kosova status process, his office reported Wednesday.

Mediu held a two-day visit, January 14-15, to meet with his Slovak counterpart, Frantisek Kasicky.

The Slovak minister assured Mediu of his country’s support of Albania becoming a member at the next NATO summit in Bucharest.

Kasicky also offered his country’s support with expertise and experience from their own acceptance into NATO.

Mediu said that the failure of international talks on Kosova should not delay its independence, saying that would be ‘dangerous.’

“Albania is stressing to the Albanian leaders in Kosova the importance of cooperation with the international community, EU and NATO on its next steps,” a ministry statement said.

Both ministries signed an agreement of cooperation as well.
