Defense minister urges army registration, till it gets professional

VLORA, Oct 5 – Defense Minister Gazmend Oketa appealed to all youngsters not to avoid recruiting in the army.
During a visit to southwestern district of Vlora he said that recruiting would end Dec. 31, 2009 after which all new soldiers would be hired from a professional army.
Oketa said that the hired army personnel would follow strict tests in order to create a truly professional army in the near future, according to NATO standards.
Albania hopes to become a full NATO member next year, after getting the membership invitation and signing the membership protocol earlier this year.
