TIRANA, Jan. 9 – Deputy Foreign Minister Selim Belortaja received last week the Monitoring and Information Center Team for Civil Protection of the European Union (MIC) accompanied by the Head of EU Delegation in Albania, Ambassador Helmuth Lohan.
Belortaja stressed that the Albanian Government was fully engaged and constantly follows the situation on the ground. He also informed the MIC experts on the latest developments as well as measures taken by central and local government structures, including non-governmental organizations in tackling the situation created as a result of flooding.
Belortaja noted that actually it was of great importance the management and coordination of the assistance provided by our international partners. He thanked the experts arriving in Tirana for their readiness and rapid response to the request of the Albanian Government for assistance.
MIC experts,while they presented the assistance provided so far, expressed fully readiness to provide the best expertise in the management of civil defense and efficient organization of the distribution of aid to families affected by floods.
Ambassador Lohan, noted that the MIC expert team responded very quickly to the Albanian Government’s request and that they will be fully operational on the ground working closely with Albanian authorities.
Monitoring and Information Center for Civil Protection of the European Union (MIC), operated by the European Commission in Brussels, is the operational heart of the Community Mechanism for Civil Protection. It is on alert 24 / 7 and is equipped with office workers and experts working in shifts. MIC gives access to the EU platform for civil protection to any any country affected by major natural disaster – inside or outside the EU – may seek assistance through the MIC.
