SARANDA, June 23 – A fire in the southernmost district of Saranda turned into a real threat after explosions of ammunition were heard.
The fire started near a former military base and people reported hearing small explosions, allegedly from ammunition stored there since the 1997 anarchy when army depots were robbed by people who lost their life savings in failed pyramid investment schemes. The fire started in Saranda’s suburbs and took some hours before firefighters extinguished it. No one was injured and no damage was reported.
