TIRANA, July 18 – Late folk singer, Fitnete Rexha, was awarded the Grand Master medal from Albanian President Alfred Moisiu.
Rexha was a well-known singer of middle Albania’s folk music.
Many experts credit her with eliminating oriental influences from Albanian folk music.
Rexha was daughter of the People’s Hero, Babe Rexh Delia, a family from Kruja well known for her role in folk music.
Rexha started to sing on Radio Tirana at 15 years old.
She first worked as singer at the Tirana humor theatre and then moved to the Assembly of Folk Songs and Dance, from where she retired in 1981.
She has registered some 200 songs.
