TIRANA, Sep 23 – Workers at the ammunition disposal factory in Gerdec which exploded in March 15 killing 26 and injuring 300 others said that many ammunition boxes going there were taken to the international airport to be transported away.
The March 15 blast also served to launch an investigation in the United States where owner and managers of a local company there have been charged due to the fact that U.S. laws did not allow use of Chinese ammunition.
The AEY company had a $300 million contract with Pentagon to send ammunition to Afghanistan. It is very likely (as proved until now though not yet from the court in the States) that Chinese ammunition found in Albania were used to be given to the afghan army as if coming from Hungary.
Gerdec plant workers showed how they had cleared the plant from the Chinese ammunition when a New York Times newspaper journalist was to visit the area last November.
A talk show at the Vizion + private TV station from journalist Mero Baze showed how the plant had employed women and children, which is against the law.
The broadcast also showed military personnel working there.
It also broadcast the phone conversation of a manager of a U.S. company during the moment of explosion March 15. That company had earlier declared it had finished its contract in December and was not involved further.
Mero Baze directly attacked Prime Minister Sali Berisha, his son Shkelzen, former Defense Minister Fatmir Mediu, his top official Ylli Pinari and others involved in that traffic as being responsible for the explosion and the illegal weapon traffic.
Baze also openly said that Kosta Trebicka, the businessman who turned into a whistle-blower when he denounced the traffic at the New York Times newspaper, was killed from the Mafia government persons who wanted to keep under control not only the ammunition disposal but also their traffic.
