TIRANA, Sep 1 – Citizens who had formerly been politically persecuted in Albania have asked to meet with the Justice Minister in order to finalize a list of names in order to receive monthly compensation from the government.
They complain that the government, like all its predecessors, has not set an amount for compensation they should receive for their years in prison, internment camps or for families of those executed under the former communist regime.
Citizens have threatened to begin protests this month unless they receive compensation.
