TIRANA, Jan 12 – Albanian telecoms regulator, the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP), is planning to issue a fourth wireless network operating license.
According to its head, Ilir Shehu, bids for the concession will be accepted beginning 23 January, adding that ‘many foreign companies had already been interested in entering this market.’
Albania is currently home to wireless network players: Albania Mobile Communications (AMC), Vodafone Albania and Eagle Mobile.
The latter launched services in March last year and has attracted around 250,000 customers, leaving it a considerable distance behind AMC with 1.3 million users and Vodafone with 1.2 million.
