BERLIN, Feb. 3 – German police arrested a Turkish man who hijacked a plane from Albania to Turkey in 2006.
Federal police spokesman Matthias Menge told The Associated Press that the 31-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning on a night train near the German-Danish border.
He was traveling with fake Italian documents and police discovered there was international warrant for him that had been issued by Albanian authorities in connection with a plane hijacking.
Police declined to give the suspect’s name, and said a local court will decide whether he should be extradited to Albania.
The Turkish Airlines flight from Tirana to Istanbul was hijacked in October 2006. It landed in Brindisi, Italy, where the hijacker surrendered and released his passengers
