GJIROKASTRA, Nov 10 – The Gjirokastra district court on Tuesday sentenced four persons to imprisonment but with sentences which did not satisfy the prosecutors who said they would appeal them.
Last November three people died due to the collapse of an apartment building. Four others were injured.
The court said that the cause of the collapse was the nearby construction work at a new building at the base of the hill.
The owner of the construction company, Sotiris Janora, was sentenced to six years imprisonment and is considered the main one to be blamed for the collapse. Three other persons were sentenced from six months to 2.5 years of imprisonment charged with abuse of post. The latter were officials at the city hall.
Three were released as innocent.
Prosecutors had asked for 21 years imprisonment for Janora. They immediately expressed their dissatisfaction and said they would appeal the verdict
