TIRANA, Jan 7 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha said that the government would soon propose building of a memorial to the former political persecuted in capital Tirana just in front of the ‘pyramid’ building which once was built to serve as a museum to the late communist dictator Enver Hoxha.
Berisha also said that he would initiate the opening of an Institute to check the crimes committed from the former communist regime.
He also said that Feb. 20, the day when protestors threw down Hoxha’s monument in 1992 at Tirana’s main Skanderbeg Square, was the best date as the national day in honor of the former political persecuted.
Last month the parliament also passed a law on the transparency of the files of the former communist secret police Sigurimi, a move that was opposed by the opposition and other groupings saying that would only serve the government to clean the prosecutor’s office and courts from those prosecutors and judges covering scandal cases directly involving Berisha’s family members or his cabinet members.
