TIRANA, July 6 – Police arrested a group of persons who had stolen what is believed to be in millions of Euros.
Seventeen persons were involved in stealing money after cloning fake cards after stealing their codes through internet.
Local media reported the stolen amount could be about two million Euros.
Police declined to give any figure saying only ‘considerable amount’ and adding they had bought illegally luxurious objects, cars and so on that in a way support that idea.
Following an eight-month investigation police arrested 17 persons involved in theft through the ATM with closed Visa and Master cards. Police said they had made transactions after stealing the codes of the cards belonging to other persons, basically foreigners and not Albanians. They had used them in 400 cases but no figure was given on the stolen amount in many cities in the country.
They had withdrawn not only cash but also used them to buy expensive items, luxurious cars and other things in Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosova. That was the first time police encountered such a crime in the post-communist country.
