TIRANA, Sep 23 – The text of the 12th grade of high school history text has sparked a political debate with the opposition asking the education ministry to abolish its use for violating the country’s history.
The opposition said that the authors have put some text with political background referring to the post-communist period. They said the authors, who are open militants of the governing Democratic party of Prime Minister Sali Berisha, have said that the country entered a new era since 2005 when the Democrats came back to power and corruption was blooming during the former years under the governance of the opposition Socialist Party.
The opposition said that such a context would seriously damage the youngsters reading it and is also distorting the country’s history.
The education ministry, on the other side, said they could not abolish the use of any text passed by an evaluation commission.
