TIRANA, Dec. 19 – Some 500 prisoners in Albanian jails are expecting a pardon at the end of the year. That is a traditional practice by the country’s president who may offer two general pardons every year.
The justice ministry legal department said that they have prepared the files for these prisoners and they have been sent to the president, whose staff is reviewing the information. Such pardons also help the prison department to free up space. Lack of space at the prisons has been a continuous problem in post-communist Albania.
