TIRANA, Nov 24 – Speaker of the Parliament of Iceland Asta Johannesdottir made a visit to Tirana to meet with top officials and discuss their countries’ efforts in the integration into the European Union.
That was the first official visit from Althingi, the parliament of Iceland, to Albania.
Johannesdottir welcomed Albania’s membership into NATO and the integration road towards the EU.
“I am certain that your membership to NATO and now the accession process toward EU membership will boost further reforms in your country,” she said.
Both Albania and Iceland applied for a membership to the European Union, but Iceland is much ahead given earlier this year the status of candidate, which Albania is still waiting for the thousands of questions to answer.
It is believed that very soon together with Croatia, Iceland will become an EU member.
Albanian Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli asked her counterpart to encourage the Icelandic investors to come and explore Albania.
