TIRANA, July 20 – An illegal immigrant from Albania is set to be deported after he was caught working at a car wash.
Maksim Pati, 24, was arrested on Tuesday while working at the Shiny car wash in Roose Road, Barrow. He made the 1,400-mile trip to England from his native Albania some 14 months ago, using a fake Greek ID card he had purchased for 1,500 Euros.
He obtained a National Insurance number and gained work at the car wash but was arrested by the immigration crime team after they turned up with a warrant and found the fake ID.
Pati had initially given officers a false name and had then admitted the offence of possession of a false Greek identification card.
Pati had also managed to obtain a bank account with NatWest containing a total of 18,000 pounds.
The bank account has been frozen.
Pati will face up to 10 years in an English prison if convicted.
Pati has cooperated fully with the police.
It was likely Pati would face deportation back to Albania while serving his impending sentence.
Pati, who pleaded guilty to possessing a false identity document, was remanded into custody and will appear at Preston Crown Court on July 31.
