TIRANA, Sep 15 – Albanian immigrants in nearby Italy have become the target of xenophobic attacks.
The local media reported a recent attack in Venice.
Two Albanian immigrants were attacked with kicks and punches by a group of people in green T-shirts.
This shocking episode happened Sunday in the heart of Venice, just steps away from Piazza San Marco. On Sunday the square was more frequented than ever, given the presence in the city with the usual manifestation of the Lega Nord and to celebrate river Po.
A group of people, according to the victim, dressed in green, hit two waiters mercilessly. Ervin Doci, 21, found himself with one arm and his nose broken.
“There were eight of them, dressed in green beating on the windows. I went out and asked them to leave. They came in, smashed everything and turned to me. I was beaten under shouts like “Albanian shit.” It had never happened such a thing before. But I am here to work,” said the Albania, according to the Venice press.
The local authorities in Venice launched an investigation into the case.
The city council “expresses its total solidarity with the harassed workers and strongly condemned the heinous incident of racist violence.”
