GJIROKASTRA, Oct 21 – Prosecutors asked for prison sentences for the people allegedly to blame for the collapse of a building in the southern city of Gjirokastra a year ago where three people were killed.
For the administrator of the Arti Shpk company, Sotiraq Janora, prosecutors asked 21 years imprisonment based on the murder and property destruction charges. Janora was the only one to remain under arrest since the incident a year ago.
Prosecutors asked for three and a half years imprisonment for Af쳤ita Papamihali, an official at the city hall.
The same sentence was asked for two other persons, Admir Shehaj and Alfred Mamani and three years for engineer Gjergji Mece. One year imprisonment was asked for Leonard Mustafaraj and Petrit Maksuti, city hall police officials.
Next month the court will listen to the defendants and then on Nov. 9 they will give the verdict.
In November last year an apartment building partially collapsed in Gjirokastra killing two women and one child. There were also other slightly injured people.
It is believed that the collapse was caused by construction work on an adjacent apartment building.
