Tirana, June 19 – The Albanian Council of Ministers has decided to compensate, in-kind, former owners who lost their properties after November 29, 1944. For this purpose, the Albanian government has ordered the creation of a special fund that is going to be administered by the Agency for the Return and Compensation of Real Properties. The Albanian government has transferred to the fund 29 buildings, mainly old depots, 17,335 hectares of arable land taken over by state-owned farms, and 72,891 hectares of forest and pastures. According to the decision of the Albanian government, the Agency should first check that the state ownership of these properties is not challenged by other owners. Only after that, the Agency can begin procedures for the distribution of land and objects to former owner who lost their property after November 29, 1944. (Tirana Times Staff)
