TIRANA, Sep 29 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha said Monday upon return from New York where he took part at the United Nations General Assembly 64th annual session that presenting the country’s efforts for integration into the European Union, management of the economy and lobbying for Kosovo recognition were the main issues he focused during his stay.
Speaking at a news conference Monday evening Berisha said that Albania’s integration and its European project, bilateral ties and concrete investment projects in Albania and lobbying for Kosovo’s recognition were the three focused topics.
Berisha did not forget to mention that he had invited US President Barack Obama to visit Albania in the future.
The premier had a series of meetings with many world leaders.
During the stay Berisha also held a meeting with the Albanian Diaspora in the United States.
During the news conference Berisha also repeated the call to the opposition to turn back to the parliament but also declined to say they would fulfill their request for the investigation of the June 28 parliamentary elections.
He said that the opposition should be present at this time when the country is expecting responses from Brussels on the candidate status and also the visa-free regime.
Berisha said that the ‘judge’ f the polls had given a green light to them. He referred to the OSCE/ODIHR report saying they did not mention any vote manipulation.
The premier repeated his saying that he would give the call to the opposition in all the country’s integration reforms. E also said that the recommendations made from the ODIHR on the elections need to be fulfilled by all the political parties, including the opposition.
Berisha also hailed the victory of Angela Merkel in Germany’s elections, which he considered a victory of importance for Europe’s values, future and integration.
“The victory of the centre-right in Germany is a major event not only for the right wing but for the whole of Europe,” he said.
