Italy helps flooded population

ROME, Jan. 11 – On recommendation of Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, the Directorate General for Development Cooperation set up a transport for humanitarian emergency ‘ sending of basic needs’, worth about 250,000 euros, according to a statement from the Ministry.
The assistance provides for the departure on the night of January 13 of a convoy of trucks from the Italian Cooperation and Humanitarian UNHRD depot in Brindisi to the port of Bari, and then to reach the port of Durres. On Jan. 14 it will be at the town of Lezha, one of the most affected by the flood.
The aid totaling almost 40 tons consists of blankets, family tents, kitchen sets, plastic sheeting, containers for drinking water, electricity generators, inflatable boats and high-energy biscuits, and will be operated to meet the needs more than 3,500 evacuees.
