TIRANA, Feb. 26 – According to the latest monthly report by INSTAT, the volume of loaded and unloaded goods at all ports in Albania during January 2020, was 329 thousand tonnes, up by 10.3 percent compared to the same period in 2019. Moreover, 69,923 passengers chose to travel by sea, marking a 5 percent increase since January 2019. On the other hand, the amount of freight transported by air, which totaled 177 tonnes, decreased by 10.6 percent although the number of operated flights totaled 2,070, marking an increase by 4.7 percent compared to January 2019. Despite the increase in maritime transportation, air passenger transport accounted for 77.8 percent of total transport during the previous month.
Additionally, the amount of goods transported by rail in January was 3.1 million tonnes-kilometers, witnessing an increase by 30 percent compared to the same period a year earlier.
In terms of exports and imports, the value of goods traded in January amounted to 64.8 billion lek, 56.7 percent of which were transported by sea. In January 2020, goods exported by sea, road and air accounted for 62.7 percent, 34.5 percent and 0.4 percent of the total, respectively.
Goods exported by road increased by 12 percent, compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, goods exported by sea, road and air accounted for 53.4 percent, 41.7 percent and 2.9 percent of the total, respectively. Overall, imports increased by 6.2 percent since January 2019.
