GJIROKASTER, Nov 18 – Roland Suli, a sport journalist in the southern city of Memaliaj, was beaten up by Dritan Seferi, a football player of the town’s team, according to the Gjirokaster Union of Journalists association.
Suli was beaten in downtown Memaliaj Tuesday evening, the statement said.
The player had started to first verbally offend Suli and then had attacked him physically causing no serious injuries.
“The violent reaction against journalist Roland Suli is an intolerable act and deserves to be proceeded from the legal institutions,” said the statement.
They said Suli had been attacked after he had critically described the situation of the Memaliaj football team denouncing their weak work and play.
Physical violations against journalists in Albania have turned into a common thing. Earlier this month another editor was beaten up by a businessman he had been writing against.
