TIRANA, July 5 – The Union of Journalists complained that journalists were not being paid for their work and denounced the informal relations offered by their employers.
Further, the Union asked for work contracts to be offered to all journalists and denounced the black labor market imposed upon them.
Journalists normally are not paid social and health insurance by their employers, as the law requires.
Specifically, the Union mentioned TV Arberia as not paying a monthly salary to journalists they employ.
The Union said they would begin a strike of solidarity if they were not paid immediately and, very likely, would sue the media outlet for pay owed their members.
The Union, which represents hundreds of reporters in the country, also mentioned other cases in which journalists were mistreated.
The Union said some 60 percent of the media outlets do not have labor contracts with journalists and 40 percent of journalists worked in black labor. (Tirana Times Staff)
